Ive grown up in many different indian communities along my life and pardon me,my people are full of excuses. I am pretty sure if you are an indian and you are reading this, some of you might be deeply angered by my statement and a minority would be shakin their heads with a smile whipped accross their faces because you know i am right. It is no secret that the malaysian government has always been prejudice to the bumiputra's and we all understand why.
As an indian myself, some events or policies ran by the government of our beloved country has frustrated me so much i just felt its better to not say anything and give up. The most obvious example would be the education system where indians who score outstanding results do not get scolarships or courses of their choice at local universities. A few other examples would be the discount that bumiputera's get, the subsidies, the oppurtunities of businesses given and so on. It is true that our government has not been entirely fair with everyone but that is only a consequence of a signed constitution many years back after indipendance was gained.
Now my problem with my people is how they use this reason as an excuse to not achieve and come up in life. Honestly speaking, indians are the least successful in this country because of this attitude. It is a norm for mid aged working average earning indian men in this country to sit down and have a pity party for themselves and talk about how the government has not allowed them to achieve. Aint that just a load of bullcrap ? As far as i am concerned, i have seen so many successful indian people in this country and if they can do it why cant u? In my family, my father and uncles are all considered very successful people in the community and they are all from the rubber estates. Imagine if they decided to give excuses?
Indian people also have another believe that without them, the respective companies that they work for are definitely screwed and they feel that they are being over relied on and they complain all the way. My question is, if you are that important, why arent u the ceo or at least the managing director of that company? Or if you feel you are that capable, instead of complaining why dont you start your own business?
Now please dont get me wrong as i am not a rebel of my own people and i am most defintely proud to be indian but i disagree on a few things with my people. The difference between the indians and the chinese of malaysia is thay indians chose to complain and the chinese chose to materialize. The most successful people economically today in our country are our chinese brothers and they are not bumiputeta's , therefore they do not get any special treatment just like us. Why did the chinese make it big i wonder. Excuses are definitely not going to bring us anywhere.
If the government is not giving you equal rights and you know it is not going to be attainable anytime soon, then why waste time askin for it and using it as an allibi to your failure? Why not find ways to make it big like the chinese and a few indian optimists?
